It is essential that your Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) is kept in top condition with a DSG oil change. When your DSG oil is due varies from model to model because there are multiple types of DSG gearbox. As a rule we recommend an oil/filter change every 40,000 miles for the wet clutch systems.

However, this can vary depending on the age and model of the vehicle, so please call us for advice and we can check on the DSB records to confirm whether your DSG service is due. The DSG (direct shift gearbox) is unlike a conventional automatic transmission as it contains two computer-controlled clutches which have precisely engineered tolerances. It is so refined that each change takes less than four-hundredths of a second.

However, if your gearbox oil is dirty, it will harm the other parts and affect the performance. You need to book a DSG service regularly to keep it working in top condition. Dirty oil can overheat the gearbox or cause the clutches to burn out. This can lead to poor gear selection, loss of power and transmission failure.

DSG gearboxes like any component can fault with sudden loss of power/drive, difficulty shifting gears, transmission slipping, or overheating. Issues can be caused by worn transmission components, low transmission fluid levels, malfunctioning sensors, faulty solenoids valves and poor maintenance.

Following correct service schedule and prompt repairs help prevent further damage to the transmission. Some issues are covered by Manufacturer TPI’s with recommended repair resolutions when connected with known DSG gearbox problems.

It is important to have issues correctly diagnosed and repaired with the specialist tooling.

Here at Moorfield German Motors we have the correct diagnostics with ODIS/ERWIN and dealer tooling to correctly diagnose and repair DSG faults such as P17BF (clutch torque deviation), P173F (gearbox oil pressure sensor), and P071100 (transmission fluid temperature sensor).

Experiencing any of these issues with your DSG gearbox then speak to the experts at Moorfield German Motors.

Mechatronic is a combination of mechanical and electronic systems, faults may result in a variety of issues ranging from poor shifting to transmission failure. Common fault codes include P0706 - Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Range/Performance, P189C - Transmission Control Module (TCM) Requested MIL Illumination, and P17BF – Mechatronic Communication Error.

If you experience any of these issues then here at Moorfield German Motors we can professionally diagnose and repair your Mechatronic issues.
