FAQs
A cat back exhaust system is an upgrade which replaces everything from the original manufacturer’s catalytic converter to the rear bumper. The primary function of a cat back exhaust system is to influence the vehicle’s sound and performance without interfering with emissions-compliant factory sensors. For a sportier feel, it can make a fantastic upgrade for performance enthusiasts and car modifiers alike.
The main parts of a cat back exhaust system feature a main pipe that connects the catalytic converter to the silencers. Between the piping and the catalytic converter, there is a resonator (if included) which largely affects the sound that is produced from your vehicle.
Many of our cat back exhaust systems have the option to be “resonated” or “non-resonated.” Let’s take a look at how this works and how it can affect how your vehicle sounds:
Non-resonated
Cat back exhaust systems that are designed without a resonator are largely favoured by those who enjoy the full roar and loudness of their vehicle. Featuring a straight pipe in place of the resonator, a louder, fuller and raspier tone is produced with this option, which is particularly more noticeable when accelerating.
Resonated
Cat back exhaust systems with a resonator cancels out any harsh frequencies. While this option still provides a very sporty feel, the sound often feels more controlled and “tamed” than one without a resonator.
We also have the options of different materials such as Daytona Chrome or Daytona Black Ceramic, catering for those who have different preferences when it comes to their aesthetics. Not only do these finishes provide a nice aesthetic touch, but they’re also incredibly durable too.
A full exhaust system replaces the entire exhaust set-up from the engine all the way to the rear of the vehicle. It includes components such as exhaust manifolds, a catalytic converter, exhaust tips, GPF deletes, tunnel braces and much more.
A cat back exhaust system, on the other hand, runs from the catalytic converter to the rear end of the vehicle and is more responsible for the vehicle’s sound and, in some cases, its performance too.
Because the full exhaust systems have more components, each part has its own functions and they work together to increase power and performance. For example, the tunnel brace is designed to increase chassis rigidity that can have an impact on how the car feels and drives.
While cat back exhausts can have an impact on performance, there’s a lot of potential for even more power and more performance gains with the full exhaust systems as each component can be upgraded / modified.

The main job of the cat back system is to alter the overall sound of the vehicle depending on the driver’s preferences, ideally for race car driving and track use.
With that being said, more performance gains can be reached if you decide to get more vehicle modifications alongside an upgraded cat back exhaust system. This all depends on the suitability of your vehicle, and they’re often for track use only, but we can answer any of your questions if you’re unsure about anything.
