A magnetic sump plug is an upgrade to replace the stock drain plug. Its main job is to collect abrasive and ferrous metal particles, stopping them from circulating through your engine’s lubrication systems. This can otherwise result in engine and timing component wear over time.
Easy to install, the magnetic slump can easily be added during a service, and each plug is supplied with replacement washers for your next oil changes.
For vehicles that have a PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation), oil vapor enters the intake, facilitating build up which is made worse by exhaust gases from the Exhaust Gas Recirculation systems. Over time, the oil vapor and the gases can create a hard carbon sludge that can build up, especially with vehicles that are used for high performance on the track.
This build up of sludge can lead to a number of issues, such as restricted airflow. It can also deposit on other components such as the back of intake valves, resulting in reduced airflow and poor combustion. Overall, this can lead to restricted power and performance - not what a track enthusiast wants from their vehicle!
Check out our Walnut Blasting Service, which safely removes the carbon build up within the intake and back of Inlet Valves.
Our oil catch cans and oil management kits are engineered for high performance applications. Some models are made with twin internally-baffled oil separator turrets and are made with non-reactive aluminum to keep clean airflow flowing through your inlet manifold.
If you have any issues with your catch can or you are unsure about anything, feel free to get in contact with us and we’ll help diagnose the problem.
There are several signs to look out for when it comes to identifying if there’s any issues with your vehicle’s catch can and current oil management system. Let’s take a look at some examples of what they are:
- Residue Build Up In Intake Pipes - One of the most common signs that there is an issue with your car’s oil management is a build up of residue on your vehicle’s internal components such as the intake pipes. This can be caused by the mixture of vapors and gases creating a build up that sets over time, leading to restricted airflow and unclean air passing through the intake system.
- Oil Deposits On Throttle Body - Another sign is if there is an oily film on the throttle body. This sticky paste can prevent the throttle paste from snapping shut cleanly to maintain control over the air and fuel mixture.
- Sluggish Acceleration - If you have noticed a big reduction in throttle response and the car feels sluggish when accelerating, it might be the case that there is an issue with the oil management system. It could be a sign that the carbon sludge build up is preventing the engine from breathing properly.
- Increased Oil / Fuel Consumption - If there is no obvious leak but you’re having to add more oil in between services and even more fuel, it can be a sign that the engine is drawing it into the intake and burning it.
These are just a few examples of some signs that there might be an issue with your current oil management system, but we can take a deeper look if you book a service with us.
Oil catch cans are not always an essential accessory for standard vehicles, but they’re more suited and beneficial to tuned engine and turbo charged engines. During high performance and track use it increases crankcase pressure and oil vapor production dramatically compared to normal road driving. An oil breather catch can help control those conditions.
